The Truth of Taj Mahal

Afzal Guru : A Lucky Chap

Mohammad Afzal, also known as Afzal Guru, was convicted of conspiracy in the December 2001 attack on the Indian Parliament and was sentenced to death by the Supreme Court of India in 2004. The sentence was scheduled to be carried out on 20 October 2006. Afzal was given a stay of execution and remains on death row.
Eighty witnesses were examined for the prosecution and ten were examined for defense. The judgment mentions:
"The incident, which resulted in heavy casualties, has shaken the entire nation and the collective conscience of the society will be satisfied if the capital punishment is awarded to the offender." There is an appeal to issue clemency to Afzal from various human rights groups including political groups in Kashmir, who believe that Afzal Guru did not receive a fair trial and was subject to a frame up of corrupt and inefficient police work. Human rights activists in various parts of India and the world have demanded reprieve as they believe that the trial was flawed. Arundhati Roy and Praful Bidwai castigated the trial and argued that Afzal has been denied natural justice. Accusations of human rights violations have been made by many.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad of the Indian National Congress, Communist and local political groups voiced their support of clemency for Afzal. It is alleged many have done so to appease Muslim voters in India.
Ram Jethmalani holds that it is completely within the President's power to commute the Death sentence and is not a mercy plea. He says, "It’s a misnomer to call it a mercy petition. It leads to total misunderstanding of the constitutional power. The constitutional power is that the President has the power to disagree with the Supreme Court both with its findings of fact and law."
But other are of the view that such a sweeping Constitutional power cannot be given to the President inasmuch as it would subvert the concept of justice enshrined in the Constitution.
The Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party president and MP, Mehbooba Mufti commented that the Centre should pardon Afzal if Pakistan accepted the clemency appeal for Sarabjit Singh.
Ms. Mufti, said that if clemency appeals were made for Sarabjit citing his Indian nationality, voices should also be raised for Afzal for "he too is an Indian citizen. "Two citizens of India cannot be treated with different yardsticks" she had said.
Chief Minister of the Congress-led government in Jammu & Kashmir Ghulam Nabi Azad. He asked the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to intervene in the case and appeal to the President to pardon Afzal Guru.
However, the All India Anti-Terrorist Front Chairman M.S. Bitta has urged the President of India not to accept any clemency pleas on Afzal's behalf. He warned that his organisation would launch agitations if Afzal was pardoned. He also criticised statements of various political leaders and blamed them for "encouraging activities of militants in Jammu and Kashmir".
An India Today poll in late October showed that 78% of Indians supported the death penalty for Afzal
On 12 November 2006, the former Deputy Prime Minister of India, Mr. Lal Krishna Advani criticized the delay in carrying out the death sentence on Guru for the Parliament terror attack, saying, "I fail to understand the delay. They have increased my security. But what needs to be done immediately is to carry out the court's orders".
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has severely criticized Arundhati Roy. BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said:
"Those who are supporting Afzal by demanding that he should not be hanged are not only acting against public sentiment in the country but are giving a fillip to terrorist morale,"
On the 23nd of June 2010, the Ministry of Home Affairs has recommended the President's office to reject the mercy petition.

Afzal Guru  :  You are really a lucky chap as after doing such a thing you are still enjoying and alive and moreover various parties and people of India are there to support you and pressurizing Center Govt to pardon you.
Such parties and people are not at all bother about what you and your organization have done.

CWG 2010 : Kalmadi gets court notice

Kalmadi gets court notice on suspended official's plea

New Delhi, Sep 28 (IANS) Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (OC) chairman Suresh Kalmadi and 15 others, including Games federation chief Michael Fennel and federation CEO Mike Hooper, were issued notice by Delhi High Court Tuesday on a petition by an OC official suspended for alleged corruption.
Petitioner M. Jayachandran, joint director-general of OC, moved court seeking his reinstatement and Rs.5 crore damages for defamation.
Jayachandran alleged that his suspension by the OC Aug 5 along with other officials T.S. Darbari and Sanjay Mahindroo was illegal.
'I have no role in hiring the companies (A.M. Cars, Van Hire and A.M. Films) during the (Queens' Baton) relay and have only followed the instructions and did the process for the release of payments after due sanction,' he said.
Justice Sunil Gaur asked the OC to preserve all the documents and evidence pertaining to the petitioner's suspension. The next date of hearing is Jan 4, 2011.
The petition dubbed the OC decision to suspend Jayachandran illegal and demanded that he be reinstated as joint director-general.
He also filed a defamation suit against demanding Rs.5 crore damages.
Jayachandran was also the treasurer and officer on special duty for revenue and sponsorship in the OC.
He was accused of irregularities in the Queen's Baton Relay in London. Jayachandran was accused of approving funds for firm involved in the arrangements.
'I was never told of any charges of irregularities against me, nor was given an opportunity to explain. An internal committee set up by the OC to look into the allegations did not give me a chance to present my side,' he said in the petition.
'The actions of the OC violated the principles of natural justice and therefore illegal, arbitrary, bad in law and are liable to be declared as such,' the petition said.
The former Indian Railway Account Service (IRAS) officer of the 1981 batch has claimed that he was not involved in the decisions regarding A.M. Films, which kicked up a controversy.

I WOULD PREFER TERMINATION OF THE CAREER OF SUCH PEOPLE i.e. they shall not allowed to do a job anywhere or involve in any activity at all in India.

Do you ?

Say No to Polythene or Plastic Bags

According to studies by the Plastic Development Council under the department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, India will emerge as the third biggest consumer of plastics in the world by this year end.
Every year, around 500 billion (500,000,000,000) plastic bags are used worldwide. So many that over one million bags are being used every minute and they're damaging our environment. India's plastics consumption is one of the highest in the world. Yet, precious little has been done to recycle, re-use and dispose of plastic waste. Plastic bags are difficult and costly to recycle and most end up on landfill sites where they take around 300 years to photo degrade. They break down into tiny toxic particles that contaminate the soil and waterways and enter the food chain when  animals accidentally ingest them. But the problems surrounding waste plastic bags starts long before they photo degrade.

Plastic bags can be seen hanging from the branches of trees, flying in the air on windy days, settled amongst bushes and floating on rivers. They clog up gutters and drains causing water and sewage to overflow and become the breeding grounds of germs and bacteria that cause diseases.
Animals and sea creatures are hurt and killed every day by discarded plastic bags - a dead turtle with a plastic bag hanging from its mouth isn't a pleasant sight but mistaking plastic bags for food is commonplace amongst marine animals. Plastic clogs their intestines and leads to slow starvation.

An estimated 15 lakh computers and 30 lakh mobile phones are disposed of every year in India.  “Computers, mobiles and other electronic items generate hazardous e-waste like lead, brominated flame retardants and chromium which can cause cancer,” There is another problem: India has more to deal with than just the waste generated at home. The Environment  Protection Authority of Britain recently said 23,000  tonnes of e-waste was dumped in India, China and Pakistan.

Several Indian states such as Maharastra, Dehli, Punjab, Rajasthan, Himanchal Pradesh, Goa , West Bengal etc. banned use of polybags but still using because we people are not ready to accept it as either we dont know the harmful effects of it or we dont want to know.

Guys/gals it si a true fact that plastic/polythene which proves to be a boon for us some year back is now a threat to our environment and this whole world.

SO SAVE YOUR ENVIRONMENT

ICSE textbook calls Bhagat Singh a terrorist

Freedom fighters Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev have been referred to as terrorists in a textbook of ICSE syllabus,

"Lala Lajpat Rai was a great Extremist leader who worked for the spread of Militant Nationalism. He joined the Congress in 1888 and the Extremist Party in 1907. He infused a new spirit and confidence in the people of the Punjab." (pp 122)
ADDITIONAL District Judge of South Delhi Shri Inderjeet Singh summoned the chairmen of Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) for teaching the defamatory textbook to the students of 10th standard. The summons were also issued to Goyal Brothers Prakashan (publisher of the book) and DN Kundra, writer of the defamatory book directing to appear in the court on September 21.

The summons were issued on September 17 on a suit filed by Shri Dina Nath Batra, national convenor of Shiksha Bachao Andolan Samiti, Shri Ved Prakash Kumar, Dr KV Paliwal, Shri Ramgopal Aggarwal and Shri Gauri Shankar Bhardwaj seeking deletion of the defamatory, derogatory, insulting and objectionable passages referring to freedom fighters of Indian National Movement from the History and Civics Part-II course book of ICSE Board being taught to 10th standard students. In the chapter Revival of Terrorism the freedom fighters Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Lala Lajpat Rai, Bipin Chandra Pal have been described as ‘militants and extremists’ while Bhagat Singh, Raj Guru and Sukhdev have been referred to as ‘terrorists’. The counsel for plaintiffs is Ms Monika Arora.

The plaintiffs prayed the Court to order for deletion of the objectionable passages from the aforesaid book. They also requested the court to direct the ICSE Board to stop teaching the textbook with immediate effect since the misleading knowledge is poisoning the minds of young generation towards our patriots. The court was also requested to order the Union of India, ICSE Board and Council for Indian School Certificate Examination to develop a mechanism at both central and state level so that the textbooks are scrutinised before publication by a special committee of experts comprising of all the stake holders in education.

"We are deeply aggrieved by the defamatory, derogatory, insulting and objectionable language used to refer to the freedom fighters who laid down their lives for getting freedom for our country and the people. It is very unfortunate that despite getting freedom in 1947, such objectionable and insulting portions regarding our historical past have not been removed from the course material and the young minds are continuously being taught that the people who fought for the freedom of the country were terrorists, extremists, militants who led to Indian unrest," they said in the suit.

The objectionable book, History & Civics Part-II section B, deals with History (The Indian National Movement). Chapter IV of the section B is titled Radical Nationalism or Rise of Extremism. The book says, "Tilak is known as the Father of Militant or Radical Nationalism or Extremism in India. Tilak, the father of Indian unrest, was the most gifted member of the Extremist Party." (pp 117).

"Lala Lajpat Rai was also a great Extremist leader who worked for the spread of Militant Nationalism. He joined the Extremists in 1907." (pp 118).

"Bipin Chandra Pal was also one of the eminent Extremist Leaders. In the beginning he supported the moderates but after the partition of Bengal, he joined the Extremists." (pp 119).

"Origin of Revolutionary Movement: When the Indian youth saw that the strategy of making public speeches, holding processions and agitations had no effect on the English, out of desperation they took to terrorism. They took the path of shot and shell. The Partition of Bengal and the atrocities committed by the Government on the anti-partition agitators further added fuel to the fire. The terrorists remained more active from 1907 to 1914, though their movement continued till the independence of the country." (pp 120).

"Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Lala Lajpat Rai and Bipin Chandra Pal wanted Swaraj through revolutionary means and a continuous struggle. They came to be called the Extremists or the Nationalist Militants. They guided the National Movement from 1905 to 1919." (pp).

"Tilak is known as the Father of Militant or Radical Nationalism or Extremism in India. He was also called the father of Indian unrest." (pp 122).

"Lala Lajpat Rai was a great Extremist leader who worked for the spread of Militant Nationalism. He joined the Congress in 1888 and the Extremist Party in 1907. He infused a new spirit and confidence in the people of the Punjab." (pp 122)

"Many young Indians were desperate for freedom and took to terrorism to get rid of British Rule. They were active from 1907 to 1914." (pp 123).

"Chapekar Brothers killed British officers who were notorious. Abhinava Bharat was formed in 1904 by VD Savarkar, Khudi Ram Bose and Prafulla Chaki threw a bomb on a carriage they thought was carrying a British officer, Kingsford." (pp123).

Stop Smoking

We all know that smoking is harmful to both smoker and non smoker but still accepting those people who smoke and harm both of us.
The effects of smoking on human health are serious and in many cases, deadly. There are approximately 4000 chemicals in cigarettes, hundreds of which are toxic. The ingredients in cigarettes affect everything from the internal functioning of organs to the efficiency of the body's immune system. The effects of cigarette smoking are destructive and widespread.

Smoking Effects on the Human Body

  • Toxic ingredients in cigarette smoke travel throughout the body, causing damage in several different ways.
  • Nicotine reaches the brain within 10 seconds after smoke is inhaled. It has been found in every part of the body and in breast milk.
  • Carbon monoxide binds to hemoglobin in red blood cells, preventing affected cells from carrying a full load of oxygen.
  • Cancer-causing agents (carcinogens) in tobacco smoke damage important genes that control the growth of cells, causing them to grow abnormally or to reproduce too rapidly.
  • The carcinogen benzo(a)pyrene binds to cells in the airways and major organs of smokers.
  • Smoking affects the function of the immune system and may increase the risk for respiratory and other infections.
  • There are several likely ways that cigarette smoke does its damage. One is oxidative stress that mutates DNA, promotes atherosclerosis, and leads to chronic lung injury. Oxidative stress is thought to be the general mechanism behind the aging process, contributing to the development of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and COPD.
  • The body produces antioxidants to help repair damaged cells. Smokers have lower levels of antioxidants in their blood than do nonsmokers.
  • Smoking is associated with higher levels of chronic inflammation, another damaging process that may result in oxidative stress.
So, stop smoking if you are a smoker and ask a smoker to stop it as he/she is harming you unintentionally.

A Salute to the greatest Freedom Fighter and true Indian.

Stop drinking Coke, Pepsi . Ganda Matlab Coca Cola

Coke, Pepsi contain pesticide residues: Study

IT was the two multinational cola giants — Coca-Cola and Pepsi — who were in the environmentalists' dock today, with the Delhi-based Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) uncorking its study that revealed a `cocktail of pesticide residues' in soft drink brands belonging to the two global majors.
And though these two companies operate within the food laws prevalent in India, CSE alleged that they exercised "double standards", in terms of selling "dirty cola" in India, while their products in the US, for instance, contain no pesticides.
And even before the last sound byte was heard on the issue, the competing cola majors put their heads together and called for an interaction with the media, where they dismissed CSE's allegations as "baseless".
Earlier in the day, CSE said its study found that 12 major brands sold in the capital, including Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Mirinda, Diet Pepsi and Limca, contained pesticide residues.
"The tests were done in our labs, based on international methodology and the study was funded by CSE," Ms Sunita Narain, Director, CSE, told Business Line.
Only six months ago, the same organisation had opened a can of worms on pesticide residue in bottled water and the exercise had ended with the Union Health Ministry notifying new norms for pesticides in packaged drinking water.
The soft drinks were tested for commonly used pesticides in India, such as organochlorine and organophosphorus. "All samples contained residues of four extremely toxic pesticides and insecticides: lindane, DDT, malathion and chlorpyrifos. The residue levels far exceeded the maximum residue limit for pesticides in water used as `food', set down by the European Economic Commission (EEC). Each sample had enough poison to cause — in the long term — cancer, damage to the nervous and reproductive systems, among other things," she pointed out.
Responding to industry's constant refrain that milk and other food products also contain pesticide, she said: "Just because others violate the law, it does not give the right to global corporates such as Coke and Pepsi to do the same. They are market leaders and need to set an example. Ground water here does contain pesticide, but companies should invest more in cleaning up the water, which is the raw material for soft drinks. Water accounts for more than 80 per cent of the soft drink."
About 6,500 million bottles of soft drinks were consumed in India in 2001. The existing laws — the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act and the Food Products Order — are weak and do not regulate pesticide content in soft drinks, she pointed out.
"We need a comprehensive pesticide policy. The regulations that exist have a total disregard for public health. And it is unfortunate that two giant corporations, who swear by the principles of corporate responsibility and global standards, have taken advantage of weak regulatory standards in India," she said.
